May in France is a glorious month...and it has nothing to do with the weather. This month there are three national holidays (and there actually used to be four until Prime Minister Raffarin declared Whit Monday (lundi de Pentecôte) a working holiday with the proceeds going to social security funds for the elderly and the handicap). Contrary to the American tradition of "observing" holidays so as to make three-day weekend-and perhaps other Anglos countries do it as well, feel free to chime in-French take their holidays on the day on which they actually fall, meaning that sometimes you will have a random Wednesday off. A nice way to break up the week. This year, May 1 (Labor Day) and May 8 (V-E Day) both fell on Tuesday and Ascension Day on Thursday, today. Many colleagues will take Monday off for holidays falling on Tuesday and do what they call the pont or bridge, creating four-day weekends. This also means that nothing in the public sector actually gets done for the entire month of May.
I did not take any of the pont this year, having just started my new job, but took advantage of those three extra days off this month to get the WIPs in order.
Exhibit 1:
Behold the Interlocking Balloons scarf from Scarf Style blocking on the ironing board. Ribbit loves it an insists that it would make a fabulous motif for a sweater. Right, 3.5mm needles and sportweight alpaca. He'll be able to wear it by the time he is 80. Modeled picture to follow, just in time for summer!
Exhibit 2:
Gift for baby Max (who is too cute for words, by the way): I finished the neck on this little cardigan, sewed up the shoulder seams and the arm seams and then went to sew the arms onto the body of the cardigan...Do you see what I saw? Looks like I have a little row gauge problem...I'm missing about 4 inches in diameter on the little arms...Any suggestions on fixing this besides the obvious of re-knitting the arms?

Welcome back from the black hole. :) The sweater color is fab! You know this happened to me once and I ended up having to rip the sleeve and do it again. Is this a Rowan pattern? I found that they made a mistake in the pattern I knit up and I had to readjust the number of stitches to make it work.
